As I was reading acting books and working on my craft I figured out what goes wrong in a game from an actors point of view.
PLOT with conflict in it!
Each person should have a 'motive' to improve and move the plot. To have motive one has focus. If you don't have focus than the plot falls apart.
Do you understand?
Relationships in characters.
Characters grow in time! They can relate to someone. Instant Owen and Daniel's both hate each other...is it getting worse or better? When relationships lock into a stage shake it out of that note and don't make monotone. Who likes to hear a song on note...or platue...do you know what I mean?
What I think what happens is in games that there is no "MAIN" plot and not moving onward. It could be the activity.
A few suggestions and ideas....
Two games I am in and this works!
But it could be done this way I think.
Main plot a board for it and people have to reply and be in that time. I recommend this be done with active players. To make this one to move if a player vanishes for a week, the mod npc the person just move it onward. This is the MAIN story plot. This is a TIME of the game. The MAIN PLOT and in this you can reply to one thread...unless your character makes an exit and reenters to another thread in THAT MAIN PLOT board area. Its like acting in a way to be exact!
SUB-plots and stories are for character development with their little plots. In a way its different time from the MAIN PLOT but this is where people role play in the 'between' episodes or 'behind' the scenes or just your own imagination.
Now one more thing that bugs me is this!!!!!
When people open a new thread and no one replies! I try to reply to all I can but than I stop myself thinking my character can't be all over the place because there are other people.
Some people see a new thread and they are like I don't know that new character and don't reply. Well be bold and go for it! How can your character grow if it doesn't go and play with other people. This is very common thing that happens to new characters. New characters should be given special attention because all lot of people give them up because no one to play with that character. And this makes me sad. I hate to see someone put a new character together and they get ignored.
And..i never going to shut up...
if your in a thread and you feel its not working...this is a common thing to us in real life...Did you ever chatted with someone and you felt this person is a creep and you know it won't go no where. FINE! deal with it. Find a way to end it and tell the other player you lost the feel or you think it won't work. BE HONEST to the other character and player. Don't just give up and ignore that thread. I see this happen all lot and I go nuts and cry.
I am big on fairness and I like to help people.
And also patience is very important.
Now this was said and I feel strong about what I said and I think I wish I can TELL EVERYONE IN EVERY GAME IN THE WORLD THIS!
