A week ago, his life changed and he was now in a world that remind him of some strange tv show. There was apart of him that always believed there was something more out there but he didn't think he would ever see anything. Then there was that alien who came out of no where when he was trying to treat that wounded man.
The alley just had enough light for him to see what he was doing. He thought it was another man coming at him until it was close enough to him. Then there was that man in the trench coat there not long after. The man he would come to know as Harkness. While the wounded alien was being looked to, he was getting the wounded man ready to be taken to the hospital.
Daniel didn't grow up in England, he spent most of his time as a kid in the states then when he was in the military as a medic. He was stationed here for a little bit and he had been here since. Or at least that is what his file said. Daniel couldn't remember much of his past.
He still was confused as by what he was, he figured that Harkness and his team would be wanting to run test on him. After he pretty much healed the cuts right in front of that man in the alley. But instead, here he was working as their medical officer. It was still rather strange and confusing but healing people was something he loved doing and it was what he was best at doing.
Daniel found himself standing there in the room, looking around at the computers and all the equipment. He wasn't sure what he was going to do or what he was going to heal but this wasn't something he could pass up. Besides, it would give him a chance to figure out what was going on with him.
The bottle in his hand was brought up and he took a drink of the grape juice before moving into the room more. He wasn't sure where everyone was but at least it gave him sometime to get settled in. There was apart of him that was nervous and wondering how the team would take to him. Daniel hated being the new guy.

Aaron carefully laid out the pistols on the desk, one by one. Below them were half a dozen submachine guns and short barrelled rifles. Apparently they were getting a new recruit and, if the file Jack had distributed was right, he had military experience. The problem was that he had no idea how much the new guy remembered of his basic training, since he'd spent two years in a coma and, according to the file, had a lot of trouble remembering his past. Now, he wasn't about to drag the new guy down her as soon as he saw him, that would be both rude and give him the wrong impression, but Aaron did plan on getting him down to the armoury and going through every single one of the weapons he had on the table before he let the newbie anywhere near them.
Looking at the multitude of weapons laid out on the table, Aaron decided that he had enough weapons to arm a small army and take over Cardiff. Well, maybe not, but the new guy was going to be down her for well over an hour, maybe even three or four if he wanted to fire multiple magazines. There was no one around, so Aaron smiled broadly as he remembered the first time he had been introduced to Torchwood arsenal. He was going to blow the new guy's mind.
Finished with laying out the weapons, Aaron headed up to the centre of the Hub. He'd initially come in early to catch up on some paperwork, there was always paperwork, but had remembered that they were getting a new recruit, resulting in an hours distraction as he prepared the armoury. Still, at least he wouldn't be any further behind than if he'd been a lazy bum and slept in.
Aaron was just about to enter the Hub proper when he saw the new guy looking around. Rather than going up and introducing himself straight away, Aaron paused and slouched up against the wall, arms folded, observing him. The new recruit - whose name, according to the file, was Daniel - was looking around the Hub and trying to take in the sheer insanity of it all. The blue computer screens, the wires running everywhere, the insanely high ceiling and even the occasional bits of Alien technology lying on desks or hanging on walls. Aaron could sympathise with him, he'd felt much the same way the first time he had entered the Hub.
Daniel took a swig from his bottle and Aaron gave him a cursory examination. The man was relatively tall, by Aaron's standards, anyway, and was fit. His face had been worn by weather and, at a guess, Aaron would say that he was at in his early or mid-30s. His hair was cut short, possibly a remnant of his military training, and his eyes seemed to be scanning the room and examining it with a military precision. So long as Daniel didn't turn out to be a cowboy style soldier, Aaron was going to get along with him just fine.
Finally breaking his silence, Aaron didn't bother to add a smile to his usual expression. Why blow sunshine up the arse of the new guy?
"So, you're our new medic. Welcome to Torchwood."

As he stood there drinking the grape juice, he was thinking how crazy this was. The job he had before, being a medic was steady and he had a strong promise of being the captain of a station one day. He was the best there was and never knew when to give up. However that night a few days ago in the alley had changed it all. Brought what he thought he was going to spend the rest of his life doing to a end and opened this new door. To what? He wasn't quite sure yet but at least he still could do what he was doing but with more added on to it. As he took in the tall celling, he thought back to that night.
It was a typical night in Cardiff, raining and cold. The city had its normal sounds, the cars driving by, people talking as they made their way to the next loction. Daniel had been sitting in the passgener's side of the ambulance, his partner a EMT was sitting in the driver's seat downing another can of energy drink. His partner Jeff was a crazy guy and so full of life and ready for the moment action. Daniel was leaning his head against the window and it was only a few moments later when a call came in. A women who was attacked and needed medical care only a block or so where they were.
Daniel and Jeff responsed to the call. However by the time they got there, a second call came in of another person attacked. One look at the wounds and Daniel knew it wasn't a mugger. With help about ten minutes out. He left Jeff to care of the women while he grabbed a kit and took off on foot. When he came across the scene, there was a creature standing there hunched over. His gray skin and the way his face was built Daniel knew it was either some kind of prank or he was looking at a new creature.
There was a growl from the creature as it came towards Daniel however a man in a suit came out of no where it seemed and shot at the creature, however a second one had been coming up from the empty alley. The man in the suit got hit and attacked by the second creature. The first one had run off and Daniel had tackled the second creature and injected it with a tranqulizer.
He was kneeling down working on treating the guy's wounds. When he noticed a man standing above him dressed in a long coat....
Daniel's thoughts were broken when he heard someone welcoming him to Torchwood. His blue eyes glanced over and noticed a man standing there, he looked and felt like he was in the military but Daniel couldn't be too sure. After all, he had just meant Jack and Ianto. This guy either was here before him and had been else where that night or he was new like him also. A deep breath was taken before he spoke. "Yes, I'm the new medic. And thank you for the welcome. Well seeing how you know who I am.. Can I at least know who you are?" His voice carried a British accent but just a faint one.
When it came to his military background, he didn't know anything about it. All he remember was waking up in that hosiptal two years ago and what he read in the file about him. Then there was what he had been doing since he woke up. Little did he know that he was truly one of those goverment's Super Soldiers but had his memory wiped because he had failed. But when it came to being a medic, he would do whatever it took to save a life. Like the time he had drove an ambulance out in the middle of a sniper shooting at fellow medics who had been trying to treat a cop who had been shot down so that he could get the sniper to give up his loction.
Daniel still wasn't sure about this new start but the job sounded interesting and like something he could easily do. Besides, there was no more sticking up with rookies or having rules that he would be held by. "So I am too earlier or is everyone else busy?" He asked. This place was really something else and it was that kind of scary different that you couldn't help to stay away from.

Daniel was staring up at the roof and all but jumped when Aaron spoke. Ah, the joy of having a newbie. They were always overwhelmed by the situation and prone to nerves. Aaron knew the feeling well, although he had long since found that the best way to fit in was to take everything in your stride. It put people off when they tried to make your first day uncomfortable and gave you the momentum you needed to turn the tables.
"Yes, I'm the new medic. And thank you for the welcome. Well seeing how you know who I am.. Can I at least know who you are?"
Interestingly, Daniel had a trace of a British accent. It wasn't uncommon for people to gradually affect the accent of the country they were in if they stayed for a long time, but Aaron thought it strange that Daniel had lost that much of his American accent. Perhaps he had had a similar accent before the coma. In any case, Daniel did have a point. Aaron should introduce himself. He stopped slouching against the wall and walked over to Daniel, holding out his hand.
"Aaron Peterson, Weapons Tech and unlicensed armourer."
Then, finding a joke that was just too good to keep to himself, he gave a huge grin.
"You're going to be the one stitching up my messes."
He laughed, watching for Daniel's reaction. Okay, so maybe it wasn't the best joke and it could be taken the wrong way, but Aaron was willing to take a little bit of flak to get more of a measure of the new medic. He was sure that any misunderstandings would be cleared up when he introduced Daniel to the wide range of less lethal weapons he had stored in the armoury.
"So I am too earlier or is everyone else busy?"
Out of habit, Aaron did a quick sweep of the Hub, not bothering to look behind him. They were both early, but Jack should be here somewhere. He shrugged mentally and figured that he'd either gone out for a walk or, now that he thought of it, gone to visit Ianto.
"You're early. Jack sleeps here, but he's probably gone for breakfast. That or Ianto. But don't feel embarrassed about turning up so early on your first day, it shows commitment, enthusiasm."
The neutral look on Aaron's face was replaced by a sharkish grin. Newbies were always fun to break in.

Having something new in his life, usually only took him a moment for him to get adjusted. Sure he was a little nervous about this then again what other kind of job did you deal with beings from other planets and whatever else came through that rift? New jobs were something he was never comfortable then again how could he say that with the only job he had was working on at the medic station he had been at for the last two years. Before that, it was all just a blank. If given the moment, he would be taking this as it came at him without looking back just like he had done that night in the alley. Risk were not something, he thought about or was afraid to take. However, standing here in the Hub knowing you were apart of something that was much bigger than the picture anyone knew about and with all this stuff around him, it was easy to get lost in it all.. Be overwhelmed by it.
When it came to it, he never noticed his accent or had any questions about what happened to his American accent. Back at the station, he was just one of the guys like everyone else. Sure there were personal questions but no one ever asked him about his past or what he remembered. When it came down to it, it was just talking about the job, what had happened lately and whatever else they could bring up. Most of the time, he was paired up with Jeff and the two of them were like brothers. No one seen him as an American in Cardiff. Before the coma, when he was taken from the government... he was just a child in Ireland. The guys who took him were a mix of different people from around the world but mostly American. However when he woke up from the coma, the British accent was the first he picked up on and been speaking with since. It wasn't something he thought about or even noticed.
Daniel looked down at the hand and took it, offering a firm handshake. "It's a pleasure to meet you Aaron. Sure with this job you get your hands on all the toys you love and things that go boom." He said, joking a little. He moved his hand away and dropped it back down by his side and offered a smile at the joke that was given. "Pretty much unless the mess it big and missing too many pieces."
There had been worse jokes back at the station he came from. Though the joke left him wondering what kind of messes Aaron was able to make. Those creatures... Weevils he believed they were like land sharks when the right buttons were pushed. He seen the mess they could make but they were not armed like this man before him was going to be. Then again it was no the time to worry about that but take it when it came. Daniel was already liking Aaron and thought they would be able to get along well on the job.
It was just hard for him to relax and get comfortable around people that were new and he couldn't explain it. He watched as the man before him did a quick sweep something that remind him of the way military personal would quickly look around. "Well, I try to show up earlier when I am able to. That's what I thought about Jack, he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would stay far away from this place if he had a choice in the matter. Not embarrassed by it, just wondering who else was around."
Daniel glanced down towards the med bay and moved over to it. His hands coming to rest on the rail as he looked down into it. It remind him of something that would be the child if a Doctor's office and Morgue could mate. His blue eyes looking around and studying the area from where he was standing.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Aaron. Sure with this job you get your hands on all the toys you love and things that go boom."
Daniel didn't know half of it. The chances were that, if you wanted a specific weapon, Aaron could provide it, and he'd get one for himself to play around with. He'd already sourced a couple of impractical, but insanely awesome, weapons and was still looking for more. He did note, however, that Daniel already had a good measure of him. A lot of people were fooled by his dour face and general lack of emotion. Either Daniel had seen through the bluff or he simply assumed that someone of Aaron's apparently young age would take this job partly because of all the "toys". Heh. He was right.
"Pretty much, unless the mess is big and missing too many pieces."
Aaron relaxed mentally. Daniel seemed to have a paramedic's sense of humour, and that made him suited for the job. You didn't survive long in Torchwood without having some sense of humour.
"'I'll keep 'em mostly intact for you."
The conversation moved on Daniel's early appearance and Aaron realised that it wouldn't be long before he ran out of things to discuss. If Daniel had been more of a tight arse or more confused then Aaron might have continued baiting him for a little longer, but from the looks of things Daniel was beginning to get accustomed to the odd surroundings and he seemed Aaron's type, which meant that unless they started talking shop or about something Aaron was interested in, then he pretty much left them to themselves.
"Well, I try to show up earlier when I am able to. That's what I thought about Jack, he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would stay far away from this place if he had a choice in the matter. Not embarrassed by it, just wondering who else was around."
Aaron nodded. Daniel had a good sense of humour and a good work ethic. Hopefully he wouldn't find a good woman either, because Aaron knew that relationships tended not to work out when working under Jack. A small staff and 24/7 Rift activity meant that social events were more or less a no go.
Daniel moved over to the med bay and Aaron went with him. The med bay, to Aaron, was probably the creepiest part of the Hub. It doubled as a morgue and a surgery, so whatever way you looked at it, waking up in the med bay was not something you wanted to happen to you. And considering the number of people who had died or been brought back to life there...
Shaking his head mentally, Aaron decided that he should probably get started on the paperwork. Daniel would be fine on his own, and it wouldn't be long before Jack arrived to give a detailed tour of the Hub, complete with interesting, but utterly useless, historical information.
"Well, I've got some paperwork that needs doing. Jack'll be here soon to give you a full guided tour, he's much better at it than me, but give me a shout if you need anything."

Weapons were not something he knew a great deal about. He knew there was hand guns, rifles, bows, missles and knives. Beyond that, he wasn't the sharpest tool in the box. Give him a person who was injuried and the odds stacked agains them then he was was your man. Daniel never kept track of the ones he saved, only the one he had lost. In the last two years, there had been on three that he couldn't save. Which was the personal best out of the station. Reading people was something else he found himself good at doing. He had seen in the eyes of Aaron that there was a good man beyond them, one who was rather relaxed. Then again, he had a feeling that Jack wouldn't be hiring anyone who wasn't a good person or someone he didn't believe in.
Daniel often pushed people away because of how he usually looked like he was lost in his own thoughts or wasn't the type to open up. Back at the station, he had the reputation of the wreckless playboy who was crazy. Sure when he was relaxed, he was able to be more open and playful but when he wasn't, he was the quiet reserved type. "Well, don't hold back from giving me a challenge now and then. Having the usual bullet wound can be rather boring. Maybe take chainsaw after them or something like that?" He said, joking around more. It was hard to keep him from getting bored, he was always looking for something to keep him busy or else his mind would tend to wonder and try to figure out who he was. Which wasn't easy to figure out, there wasn't much out there on him. Friends and family didn't seem to exist either so there was no one to talk to. Even the unit they claimed he was part of was long gone. So he felt like he was the only one left.
When it came down to talking about himself or shop, he would do what it took to keep it on shop talk. Because there wasn't too much about himself that he could talk about even if he wanted to. Shop was also something he was more comfortable talking about. The odd surroundings didn't bother him much after all he had seen everything from a person's brains scattered on the celling to those creatures the other night. This place kind of felt like home in a strange way, like he belonged here.
As for girlfriends and boyfriends, Daniel couldn't remember having one and currently there was no one in his life. In the two years, he had slept around a little but nothing ever got serious. Home life wasn't something he had much of either. There were days when he would spend almost twenty four hours at work before his boss would kick him out. Give him time to get adjusted and often times, he would be the first one either one seen or to show up here.
As he stood there looking down at the med bay, he wondered what happened to the medic before him. And then he got starting thinking about Aaron and what his story was. How he ended up here and what he thought about the job. The med bay didn't creep Daniel off, he was rather drawn to it and couldn't wait to try and safe a life down there or treat someone for something rather simple. His head turned back to look at Aaron as he spoke about paperwork and Jack. "Well seeing how Jack lives here, I'm sure he knows the place better than anyone. And I'm sure you have to finish that paperwork before Jack takes away your toys.. If you need help with anything just ask." Daniel turned his attention back to the med bay for a moment.
"So I guess you will be the one showing me around the weapons later then seeing how its your field?"

The chainsaw comment was good, and Aaron laughed. He actually knew someone who'd tried a chainsaw on a pig carcass, and the result had been that most chainsaws small enough for some someone to use effectively as a weapon were easily jammed by a combination of flesh and bone. Plus, whenever it hit bone there was a chance that the chainsaw would bounce up and hit you instead.
"Nah, chainsaws are too impractical. I'll shoot 'em with a cannon or something like that."
Now, where could he find a cannon? Oh, right, that High Impulse Weapon System he had stored in the armoury. The trick was going to be convincing Jack to let him put it in the SUV. It was fairly big and bulky and, to be honest, there wasn't much chance of them ever needing it. Still, it might come in handy one day. Perhaps Jack would let him take his own car once. Yes, that might do it. He could keep a whole arsenal in the boot if he felt inclined.
After give a brief laugh and a "yeah" in response to Daniel's crack about Jack taking away his toys if the paper wasn't done, not an empty threat, Aaron turned away and began to head to his desk.
"So I guess you will be the one showing me around the weapons later then seeing how its your field?"
Pausing, Aaron turned to face Daniel, who was looking back at the med bay. A small grin appear, which vanished faster than it had appeared.
"Yeah. Unless, of course, you want to kill some time while you're waiting for the boss."

There were strange things that he had seen as a medic but only once had he seen someone try to remove a limb with a chainsaw. Of course it was the guy's own arm, he had a mental condtion that he believe he needed to lose the arm because he wasn't meant to have it. Long story short, the guy ended up killing himself instead because the chainsaw turned on him. Daniel doubted with all the tech around this place, there wouldn't be a need for a chainsaw. But it was getting close to halloween time and that was one way to go around killing zombies. Also it seemed like the kind of joke Aaron would find funny. "Cannon huh? That should be rather interesting."
There wasn't much Daniel needed to do his job, there had been a few times when he wasn't with a medic kit but ended up using what was around him to save a person's life. This place though, he had a feeling there would be somethings that he hadn't seen or used before that he would get a chance to play around with. As his eyes continue look around the med bay, it all seemed normal to him but then again it looked rather empty and there wasn't much there at the moment. He wondered how long this place went without a medic for.
Aaron's laugh caused him to look back at the other man and offer a smile. Daniel wondered how much paper work was there, what kind of boss Jack was and what happened around here when someone slipped up. All these he would learn in time but he wasn't sure he wanted to slip up or walk away from this job. Sure he hadn't done anything yet but his other job as a medic was like walking around on thin ice each day. With the whole one mistake and we will take away your paramedic lisence. Daniel pushed himself away from the rail, sitting his bag down on the floor besides the same rail. He gave a shrug of his shoulders. "Sure, why not. I'm sure it will look better if we are both doing something instead of one us standing around."
Daniel like being productive and though he didn't mind waiting around for something to happen, he rather be out doing something instead. Though he wasn't sure what he was about to get himself into though.

"Sure, why not. I'm sure it will look better if we are both doing something instead of one us standing around."
Nodding, with only the hint of a grin, Aaron turned and walked towards the stairs leading down to the armoury. He walked with a sense of purpose, although not with eagerness. The eager ones were always the first to be broken in any kind of military training. You needed to be the "grey man", the person was was neither excellent nor bad. Mediocre, if you will. Aaron was good at that.
Entering the armoury, Aaron took up his position behind the table, his back to the range. He wanted to see how much of Daniel's training remained, so he stood with his feet a shoulder width apart and his hands clasped behind his back. His face changed from neutral to slightly hard, the look he had used when giving Afghan troops a quick "refresher course" before going into battle with them.
Taking one hand from behind his back, Aaron waved his hand over the table.
"The guns laid out before you are the entirety of Torchwood's indoor rated armoury and are divided into four categories. To your left are the backup guns. As you can see, we do not believe in using revolvers as backup guns. The short barrel looses enough velocity as it is without a gap between the casing and the barrel. You're not expected to carry one of these, but I do recommend it.
"In the centre are the standard length side arms. Each family has been laid out according to calibre, with pistols chambered in 6.5 CBJ on the top and .45 ACP on the bottom. These are the bread and butter weapons of Torchwood, so you should select the one that you feel most comfortable with, regardless of what everyone else is carrying.
"To the right are the curiosities. These are handguns too powerful, or else too impractical, for standard issue. These range from the easily silenced Nagant revolver to the extremely powerful Smith and Wesson Model 500.
"Finally, beneath the handguns, are the submachine guns. As with the handguns, each submachine gun family has been laid out with the smallest calibre on top and the largest on the bottom. It is now your task to fire each and every one of these weapons, multiple times if you wish, in order to find weapon you are most comfortable with. If you have any questions, I will be most happy to answer them."
Finishing his very matter of fact speech, Aaron stared at Daniel, drill instructor style, waiting for the inevitable questions that would come. He wasn't sure what the question would be, but there would be at least one question.
OOC: I couldn't work the actual guns into the dialogue without making it sound too clunky, so here's the list of guns.
Backup Guns: Keltec PF9 (9x19 mm), Glock (9x19 mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, 10 mm Auto, .45 ACP), Kahr P45 (.45 ACP).
Standard Handgun: Glock (6.5 CBJ, 9x19 mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, 10 mm Auto, .45 ACP), CZ-75 (6.5 CBJ, 9x19 mm, .40 S&W), Browning HP (6.5 CBJ, 9x19 mm), SIG Sauer P229 (6.5 CBJ, 9x19 mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W), H&K USP (6.5 CBJ, 9x19 mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP), Colt M1911 (.45 ACP).
Curiosities: Nagant M1895 (7.62 Nagant), LAR Grizzly pistol (.50 AE), S&W Model 500 (.500 S&W), Glock 18 (9x19 mm), Maadi-Griffin (.50 BMG).
Submachine guns: H&K UMP (6.5 CBJ, 9x19 mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP), H&K MP7 (4.6x30 mm), FN P90 (5.7x28 mm), CPW (4.6x30 mm, 5.7x28 mm, 6.5 CBJ, 9x19 mm), B+T MP9 (6.5 CBJ, 9x19 mm), CBJ-MS (6.5 CBJ, 9x19 mm).

Daniel could tell that Aaron was more up for this than paperwork. No one cared much for paperwork and Daniel was no different. He rather be out in the field making a difference than sitting behind the desk filling out the reports. Though the thing with a medic there was twice the work. One copy that needed to be filled out and turned in at the hosptial then the trip sheet that had to be done at the station. But it came with the job and something he had to do. Daniel was the best paramedic out there because of that and how he did the job, he stood out. Got himself many forms of attention. Being the grey man wasn't something that he had been on the job as a medic. But here, he was just hoping to lay low and get the job done until everyone became comfortable around him. Then he might come out of his shell and be more open. Daniel was never all that good around new people.
As he watched Aaron with the stance and look that he grew while in the armoury, he knew that he had switched over to the training he had. Became the military man instead of the relaxed man he was upstairs. Daniel's blue eyes glanced over all the guns. Wondering if this was just a sample of the weapons they had here or just all of them. It was more than enough to arm a small army. It was then that Daniel remember that he didn't know how to handle a gun or even remembering how to use them. He stood there listening and studying the guns, he was not real comfortable around all these weapons. His mind thinking about how many times he had treated a people with gun shot wounds.
Even though he looked relax and ready to do this, Daniel wasn't. If he knew of his past then this would have been no problem. Before they wiped Daniel's mind and sent him into that coma, Daniel had used a wide range of weapons but he had been mostly a sniper back in those days when the shadow goverment had turned him into a super soldier. The record though relfected that he was in the infantry in the Army then turned medic in his final three years before being discharged honorably. Sure he knew and read all the records on him but none of it felt like something he would have done. It didn't feel right to him but he never shared that with anyone before.
When Aaron stopped talking, Daniel walked closer to the handguns and looked at them closer. He drew in a deep breath before glancing back at the other man. "So which one is first?" He knew there was no way out of this even if he didn't like the thought of using a gun so might as well get it over with.
