The light was so bright it blinded her as she felt as if Alice felt, falling down the rabbit’s hole. All she knew in those moments was the falling and the burning sensation coming from her chest area. In Cardiff the alarms showing rift activity begin to sing inside the Hub. The crack in the rift appears near the rift controls and Bailey comes falling through, hand still firmly around her gun. Her hands are bloodstained and a trail of the stuff seems to be coming from her chest area. She holds up her right hand (the one with the gun in it), shielding her eyes from the light, and inhales with a wet, raspy sound. Her eyes then sweep the room as she brings up the gun in front of her in an attempt to protect herself, trying to struggle to her knees. Her left arm lies useless at her side as she takes another raspy breath in. Then her eyes roll up and she collapses again, this time the gun falling out of her hand to the ground. She seems to be trying to say something as she passes out but the words form as some guttural moan of pain instead of actual English.

Today was picking up where yesterday never ended. Yesterday, was non stop from the rift acting up to Owen showing up and trying to start something. The only good things that happened in between was shagging Jack and Ianto. Then there was still the trouble of what the creature had done to him. He was still healing slower than what he was used to, it made him feel like he was just seeing things before or had come in contact with something that gave him the side affect of fast healing.
However Ianto still wanted to run test when they were alone in the hub. But that was easier said then done. It was hard when Jack was usually around or wanting something else.
Daniel had been changing the badages on his right arm when the alarms for rift activity went off. A groan was given, wishing that the alarms would be quiet for at least a day. He knew the increased activity had their leader, Jack worried even though he wasn't saying anything.
Daniel glanced around knowing he was alone. Remembering the others had left a little while ago when another alarm had gone off. He made his way over to a computer and glanced over the bios of the rift activity. Before picking up a com unit. "Jack we had another alarm. Looks like some large came through the rift downtown. Sending you the cordnations." Daniel told Jack over the com before sending the area to the SUV.
Then he headed out in his car. An old Dodge Charger the he restored to near perfect condtion last year.
This wasn't something he was looking forward to not with the pain killers barely keeping the pain at bay. He only took one every few hours because he couldn't risk the drugs knocking him out.
When he reached the scene, Daniel pulled out his gun and looked around. Unlike the other members, he only used a Tranq gun. His medic bag was slung over his shoulder, resting on his back.
After walking around the area for a moment before he stumbled across the body. Seeing the person, female was out cold. Daniel holster the gun and kneeled down. He pulled out a knife and removed her clothes from around the wounds. Then he ripped opened some quick clot and poured the pellets would clot the wounds and stop the bleeding.
After doing that he sat up a IV line in her arm before hooking up to saline bag which resting on his shoulder. He went about checking her vitals wanting to make sure she was stable before moving her to the Hub.

When the IV needle enters her arm both the new sensation and fear bring her around pretty quickly. She opens her eyes and looks up to see this handsome guy. Confused by her surroundings and by this new face she reaches out with her good arm, looking for her gun. When she doesn’t find it after a few moments she comes to her senses, if this guy was a threat she’d be dead by now. Besides he was nice enough to put an IV into her.
She reaches up a bloody hand to make contact, some sort of human contact, after everything that’s happened. Unwanted tears well up in her eyes as things start to come back to her, her whole team killed, herself shot, the world around her burning. She looks away a moment, steeling herself, hating that she’s venerable right now. Especially in front of this stranger, very good looking stranger, but stranger just the same.
“I need….” she coughs out, trying to make her lungs work in time with her mouth, her Scottish drawl giving her heritage away “the bay…tourist centre….Hark” Is all she can force out at the moment, the problem with a few bullets in her, not to mention the one that’s clipped her lung, giving her difficulty. Silently she goes over the next steps, get to Torchwood, get patched up, find out what’s happened.

All this was stuff Daniel could do in his sleep, its what he did best. Being a medic, treating people. It felt like his old job for once instead of chasing aliens he was working on a living human being. One had a very good chance of saving. Which was making him feel better about things even though he was still worried about something. The IV was used to replace any of the fluids she may have lost, he needed to get her back to the hub and a blood transfusion in before he could remove the bullets. At least he thought those were bullet wounds, she had traces of the rift's energy on his. The device he carried showed that.
Daniel pulled out a fold-able back board and was sitting it up so he could move her without a risk of causing anymore damage when he noticed that she started to move. His ice blue eyes looking down at the ginger hair female. He had moved the gun away from the area mostly for his safety. Daniel had no idea who this female was or where she had come from. The gun didn't look like anything from the future but that didn't mean anything. Questions would be for later. He had gone back to work, opening some bandages and gauze to wrap her wounds. When he heard her speak up. "Easy there, its going to be okay. Your in safe hands" Daniel told her in a kind voice trying to keep her calm for the time being.
When he heard the word Hark, he wasn't sure what she was talking about but she sounded Scottish from accent of her voice. He knew from her vitals, he was working against time and the one of the bullets had done some internal damage to her. Most likely her lungs if anything. Daniel carefully moved her on to the back board before moving away to pull the SUV closer to the scene then he moved her into the back of the SUV before packing up his kit.. He had hung the saline bag up to make sure the flow kept going into.
After driving for a few minutes, he got her back to the Hub and down into the med bay. Daniel wasn't sure where everyone was at the moment. It took him another hour, maybe an hour and half to remove all the bullets from her wounds and to stitch her up. He got her as comfortable as he could with the metal table down there. A fresh bag of her blood type and a bag of saline was hung up on a pole. Daniel moved to cover up before opening a bottle of pills from his pocket and swallowing one. He moved over to the stairs and sat down, just waiting.

Bailey laid back and let Daniel minster to her, feeling comforted by the tenor of his voice and the softness of his touch. She lied back and let him minster to her.
She relaxed even more when she heard the sounds of the door to the Hub rolling back, Torchwood had found her after all. She turned her head, getting as good a look as she could of the surroundings. She had questions but when she tried to voice them her lungs wouldn’t allow the air in to give the words life. She forced herself to be content with the limited view of the Hub she got. Even with that though she knew something was amiss.
When the painkillers hit her system it didn’t take her long to pass out again, having only stayed awake with the help of her own adrenaline. One of her last thoughts as she drifted off was how kind this stranger was and perhaps what it would feel like run her fingers across his soft lips.
When she awoke again the pain was less, she thanked whatever god there was for that. Having shot a few people she had luckily dodged the bullet herself until now. Having felt the pain firsthand was almost enough to make her swear against her profession, almost but not quite, next time there would be a measure of Kevlar involved, she swore to that. Funny how death and sex are almost related in her mind.
Pushing herself partway up with her good right arm she looked around again, coughing a little to clear her throat. When she sees Daniel she offers him a raspy “Thank you.” along with a small smile. She tries to sit up the rest of the way but the pain killers making her dizzy plus new pain from moving when she shouldn’t makes her lie back down rather quickly. She laughs at herself in frustration, imagine trying to get up right after losing blood, being shot, and drugged up…not necessarily in that order. She turns her head to the side so she can see Daniel again. “Did it work? Did we save Earth from the Autons?” It would be comforting to her to know that with everything she’s lost in the attempt, the world was indeed saved.

Torchwood had become his home, ending up spending more time here than he did at his own flat. All the sounds, sights and smells of the Hub were like coming home, they mad him feel comfortable and like he had found a place where he could belong. Gwen, Jack and Ianto were his family. Well two of the three he was shagging and they were more to him and part of him love Ianto and Jack but he would never voice those feelings. Daniel wondered why this female was starting to relax or seemed like she was when they entered the Hub, her vitals gave that away.
Daniel had done what he could for her, he wasn't a Doctor or specialist in the field. All he was a paramedic who knew more and could do more than most paramedics. Like the time he had used cooled saline to treat a teenager who would spinal damage and would have been in a wheelchair for the rest of his life but the nearly frozen saline had stopped the swelling and cooled down his body enough until they reached the hospital. Sure he was chewed out for it but the doctor told him later that he was proud of what Daniel had done and the chances of the kid walking again was good. His career was full of things like that; him going against orders, going over board, putting himself in the line of danger to save others and him just being a big risk but worth the payout.
The painkillers were used along with another drug to knock her out so he could open up and remove the bullets. Then he inflated her damaged lung after he had removed the bullet to make it easier to breath on her. It was a little harder to work with his one hand and arm in bandages. Then his broken ribs making hard to move around without being in pain. Daniel got the job done and he was waiting for her to come around. Then he could move her into a cell with a cot until Jack came back. Right now she was cuffed to the bed, using a pair of cuffs with a chain so she could move around enough without feeling stuck in one place.
He still wasn't sure where she had come from other than through the rift. Things that were coming through the rift lately were dangerous and he wasn't going to take a chance with her. His eyes glanced up when he noticed the movement. "No need to thank me, doing my job." He told her, his voice carrying an american accent with a tiny hit of a british accent. "Take it easier there, you should stay laying down. Don't push yourself, you will just make things worse or tear out the stitches." He told her as he watched her lay back down which he was thankful. The amount of blood she lost was trouble, it would leave her feeling weak for a while until he could replace what she had lost. He was already on the second bag of blood when it came to that matter. Daniel stood up slowly, looking puzzled when she brought up saving Earth and something called Autons. "Don't know what you are talking about. What the Autons?" He said, trying to say it like she had.
He moved over to the side of her bed, looking down at her for a moment. There was no way she was from Earth if she had come through the rift. Jack would know more about this but the other man wasn't around. So here he was dealing with it on his own. "I found you in park after the rift spat you out. Sent off the alarms here."

As her mind cleared further she noticed the cuffs, ordinarily she’d protest them but currently she was sure she was in no position to do so. She saw his injuries and surmised that he had been wounded when the Hub was under attack as well. Of course the rift opening could have had some time complications that she didn’t know about, besides really how much about the rift did she really know being a point and click person from another base.
When he moved to her side she turned, watching him and trying to place his face for the first time. Torchwood of course was a huge organization so she didn’t know everyone’s face but she remembers the two she had seen at the Hub already. The one from the Tourist Centre was probably dead so that left only one person. ”I came here with orders to give the information case to Captain Harkness. We were under fire...” She paused momentarily to give her lungs time to fill up with air again, having a reduced capacity at the currently. She closed her eyes and had a flash of those blue eyes of Jack’s sending chills down her spine, wondering what he had done.
As she opened her eyes again, trying her best to keep her mind from replaying the last day she’d had, seeing her teammates die all over again would do her no good in the present. She looks back up at Daniel “He said if I didn’t make it…” she faulters, still confused from the strangeness of the words. Taking another breath in she remembers the rest “He said to tell the Doctor that he was sorry, are you the Doctor?” She though it a silly question, of course he was a doctor, he patched her up.

Not knowing who or what she was what caused Daniel to cuff her. It was something he wouldn't normally do but with her coming through the rift, it was a different story. The last thing he wanted was for her to try and kill him. But another part off it, was he didn't want her moving around more than she should at the moment. Given he just had her chest open a while ago and knew she needed to recover without adding more stress on to herself.
After moving away from the stairs, he leaned against the wall. His hand came up to hold his side for a moment. Daniel had no idea she was Torchwood or crusing on him. When it came to people finding him attractive or wanted to be with him, it was something he was clueless about. Daniel was great at his job, not so much with people. Though he could tell she was trying to figure things out and putting the pieces together.
When she spoke, his eyes show surprise that she knew Jack. That raised a flag and more questions. Sure Daniel was the new guy on the team, the fourth member of Torchwood Four. But he never seen her before or seen any files with a photo of her. "Jack and the others are not here at the moment. They went out to track down a piece of tech that came through the rift." When he noticed the chill, he brought another blanket over and laid it down upon her.
After moving back to the wall, he took a deep breath ending up wincing from the pain that it caused. Daniel stood there listen as she spoke. "Relax, you are safe here and whatever was going from where you came from.... Its no happening here." He told her softly, hoping those words would help her to relax and calm down. If not he would have to give her something else to help out with that.
Daniel chuckled a little when she asked if he was a doctor. He was no where near being a doctor. Just a really good paramedic with skills that went beyond that of a medic. "Not a doctor nor know of a doctor around. Ask Jack when he comes back. Now you should try to get some rest. I can give you something to help out with that." Daniel told her. Hoping she would not argue with him on that.
When it came to Jack, he knew there was tons of things his captain wouldn't share nor has shared with anyone. The man was more private than anyone he had known.

As he covered her with another blanket her eyes followed him. She gave him a small grin, laughing at herself again. The drugs and her exhaustion kicking in, making her eyes glaze over with fatigue. As he winced from pain she inclined her head but let him get comfortable before speaking.
When he said he was no doctor and to ask Jack when he came back she nodded to him, lying back and taking her eyes off of him, pretty sure now she was actually safe. “An alien named the Nestene Conciousness made it to Earth. UNIT had insisted that they negotiate with it. By the time we realized it was taking over…well it started with plastics…the Autons, taking over normal people. My team…” her voice wavers as she tries to push down the emotional response to losing what was her family. She stops for a moment, taking a deep breath. “Tell your team to make sure it hasn’t taken residence near the London Eye.”
When he mentions that he’s no doctor she looked confused, now reassessing what exactly he did to her. “Well you could have fooled me.” Luckily the drugs didn’t turn of that part in her brain that kept her from saying what she was thinking…which was asking him if he fancied a shag. It’s not like she wanted to move in with Daniel or anything, just love em and leave em, it could be genetic.
“Yea, sleep. Sounds like a good idea, been up for a few days now.” She indicates with a small movement of her head to his bandaged arm. “Why don’t you rest up too?”

The exhaustion was something he could see in her eyes and he wondered when they last time she had the chance to rest. After all she looked as tired as he felt at the moment. It would be a long while before he could get any rest and with him being the only one here at the moment, he couldn't do that. "Well that grin is a good sign." He told her as he looked back over at her. Wodnering if she was starting to feel better or if that was drugs speaking.
Daniel stood there, leaning against the wall listening to her story. So far nothing of it made any connections with him. He knew if there was an alien force coming here or on Earthing causing that kind of damage she spoke of or caused the fear in her eyes, they would know about it. As well be ready for the attack, Daniel trusted Jack with his life. "We haven't at anything like that happen here yet or any signs of it going have it happen. You can explain everything later after you get some rest and when Jack is here. Whatever happen where you came from, its not happening here." Daniel was really hopign that whatever had Jack on the edge lately wasn't what she was talking about, that it was something different. Then again, there had been no signs of what she was speaking about. So he felt safe in saying what he did say.
"We know of all rift or anything coming towards Earth, so far none of the alarms went off. Jack can send Gwen or Ianto out when they get back here. For now, don't worry about any of that. Whatever happened, won't happen here." Daniel was sure of that and he knew the dangers they faced her. What could happen but this was something, he didn't believe was going to happen. He gave a good shrug of his shoulders when she spoke of fooling here, there was a slight grin. "Good study and able to adjust myself rather well. I'm just that good at my job."
Sure he was cocky but he knew that he was good and nothing was going to tell him other wise. As for shagging her. Daniel wasn't all that much into females, he rather have a male to shag any day. Currently, he had two of them that he enjoyed when they wanted him. His flat was nothing he ever saw the much of, he pretty much lived her at the hub. It became more like his home over the past few weeks than his flat was. "Get as much rest as you can get. No need to hurry anything along." A deep sigh was given and he knew he couldn't rest at the moment even he wanted to. There was too much going on at the moment and plus he was by himself at the Hub. He couldn't risk falling asleep.

When he asked her again to rest she nodded and closed her eyes obediently. She knew she’d been shot and rest was the only thing that would fix that, besides she’d earned it. She trusted Torchwood had everything under control, at least reasonably so. ”Maybe when I wake up this will all be some sort of weird nightmare.” She is pretty sure it isn’t but hope springs eternal.
She expected nightmares after the last few days she’d had. Part of her was fighting sleep, knowing what might reveal itself in her dreams. There also was this need to speak to Captain Harkness and try to get him to explain to her what he meant. Not knowing Jack, Bailey thought that an explanation would be something fairly simple to get from him.
She also was anxious to get back to Torchwood London and see what is different or strange about there. She just wanted things to get back to normal. If this all was just a strange dream that would suit her just fine. Put her back with her team and into the field and normality would return. She could pop down to the pub for a pint and might even call her mum. Then back to hunting aliens and shooting bad guys. Most people would count that a weird life but to Bailey it was normal.
As she finally lost consciousness her last thoughts were of Ash, had it been left behind? She was sure she was holding it…
